Adam directs the resource efficiency and waste management practice at Ricardo Energy & Environment.

World renowned for his pioneering thinking and innovative work on public engagement and recycling service design and delivery, with 19 years of sector experience both in the UK and overseas in transition economies.

Adam has been at the forefront of academic research on waste management issues since 1996 and is still one of the most published researchers on municipal waste management and recycling topics anywhere in the world. His expertise (on recycling service design, community engagement, contract specification and procurement) has been sought by clients around the globe from Russia and the Middle East to Latin America and North Africa; Adam has been intimately involved in developing/implementing awareness raising and community engagement programmes under international waste management projects in transition economies including extensive work in Russia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and Costa Rica as well the Middle East, Egypt, Australia and the Americas.

Professor Read is one of the UK’s top 20 waste professionals according to recent trade industry surveys, holds visiting lecturer and professorships at a number of leading UK universities, and has developed/implemented a range of awareness raising and stakeholder engagement campaigns.
