Dr. Ir. Hans van der Beek

Dr. Hans van der Beek is a graduate from Wageningen University & Research Center, the Netherlands, in plant breeding, where he also accomplished his PhD in applied genetics in root-knot nematodes.

After having worked for over 20 years in and outside the Netherlands in applied-research programs, he joined the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands, Directorate General for Agrofood&Nature, in 2001.

Since that time, he served as agricultural counsellor for the Netherlands in the Middle East and North Africa. At present based in Riyadh he is heading the agro-food representation for the Netherlands in the GCC-countries. Food security, with strong connection to water-for-food, with priorities in aquaculture/salt water agriculture, horticulture/date production and poultry, is high on the agenda in the cooperation between the Netherlands and the KSA/GCC. Focus in this cooperation is on water-use efficiency, food safety and value-chain improvement.
